A senior MDC-T official Tapiwa Mashakada has said his party is well structured based on social democracy hence its efforts to push for the upholding of democracy in Zimbabwe.
"MDC is not a rag tug organization. It is a well structured party based on Social Democracy. Our values include solidarity, transparency, obedient and humble servant leadership. Our party has 12 provinces and 210 districts and is represented at branch and ward levels throughout Zimbabwe," he said.
"The Congress is the supreme organ. In between congresses we have the National Council making policy decisions guided by the National Executive and its sub-committee called the National Standing Committee. In the diaspora we have chapters in the UK and Ireland incorporating Scotland and Wales, USA, China, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Sadc just to mention a few. We demand the right to vote to be exercised by the diaspora. We demand the implementation of the Constitution so they can get dual citizenship. The party HQ is called Harvest House."
He said as the biggest party in Africa only second to the ANC we have footprints throughout Zimbabwe.
"MDC has come of age. It is not easy to start a political party and grow its membership. Today MDC is a brand in its own right. The party has won all elections since 2000 but through rigging it was denied power. The party is represented in Parliament and runs but does not control councils hence the rot. Zanu Pf undermines and subvert our mandate through interference by the Ministers of Local government. Membership cards are available and youths are hereby encouraged to join this vibrant and modern party with viable economic policy alternatives. So here you are," he said.
"MDC is a huge organization. Even statecraft has failed to contain its growth. We are not a subversive organization that's why we open up for people to know and understand their democratic political outfit. It is the peoples project with very strong labour and civil society roots. MDC is a resilient and multi-racial party. Its patriotic party which hates corruption and racial bigotry. We are the future govt of Zimbabwe. But even with all this prowess, we still believe in working together with others."
