ZRP Senior Assistant Commissioner Silence Pondo said "as the country braces for the constitutional referendum and general elections, the force [police] is fully geared to perform its constitutional mandate of ensuring peaceful polls."

He said this while addressing police officers at Impinge Farm in Guruve.

"Some of our officers have already been trained in this regard and the programme is ongoing." The workshops seek to train officers on their role in ensuring peace.

Deputy Commissioner-General (Crime) Josephine Shambare said the force would be guided by the resolutions of the 2011 Senior Officers' Conference.

"As police officers, we are going to be guided by the resolutions of the Senior Officers' Conference in ensuring peaceful elections," she said. "The Zimbabwe Republic Police is there for total peace and progress. We shall not tolerate any bad behaviour from the public or our own members during the processes."
