CHIREDZI-The late celebrated Reggae legend, Bob Marley once sang, "You can take away everything from me, but you can never take away my wisdom or my education." In a nutshell he was trying to show the importance of education to human life.
However, education is a concoction of hard work, diligence, experienced teachers, favourable environment, and up to date equipment and learning facilities. All this bundled up leaves a legacy to ones child that he or she would cherish for the entire life.
Recently, Chiredzi has been so lucky to have a place which is a hub of excellent education in the form of Tamar College. Situated at Stand number 1189 in Tshovani Township, just opposite Christian College, the college is enrolling one-on-one ZJC, 'O' level, 'A' level, day and night as well as weekend and holiday classes, at affordable prices of $30 a month or $90 per term. It also caters for accommodation for distant female students in its unwavering bid to empower the girl child.
The college opened its door in March this year and has already enrolled over 48 students, with staff compliment of 11 qualified teachers who are currently taking students through holiday lessons in all subjects, and four none teaching staff.
According to the college director, Mr Luke Mashopeko, the college is aiming to provide excellent tailor made education to suit individual needs and to cater for every child according to his or her capabilities.
"This is an expansion of our now vibrant Checheche branch, and we are thriving to make it one of the best colleges in town. Despite, numerous hiccups and setbacks at the beginning we hope things are going to normalize soon and already we are witnessing an upsurge in the number of students coming to register at our college.
"On behalf of the college and staff I would like to thank Chiredzi parents for their steadfast support and entrusting us with the future of their children," said Mr Mashopeko.
However, some might be wondering how the college was named, but Mr Mashopeko explained that the first ever cordless phone that God ever created was a prayer which never loses signal, or needs recharging, but can be used anywhere. So as a believer he named his daughter Tamar the biblical daughter of King David which is Hebrew and can be translated as "Beautiful."
