CLOSING DAY came as a relief to Sigola Primary School pupils, most of whom had stopped attending lessons.
This followed attacks by suspected goblins that left victims for dead. Pupils at the school located on the outskirts of Bulawayo were reportedly being attacked by unseen creatures on numerous occasions.
By closing day, most pupils had reportedly stopped going to school as they feared for their lives.
According to parents whose children fell victim to the strange happenings, children would froth from the mouth.
"I was called to the school after my child had been attacked by the unseen creatures during lessons. It is said that she started by screaming and the next thing she was pointing at the unseen creatures saying they were beating her up.
"When I got to the school, a number of children had fainted after the attacks," said the parent who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The village head, Elliot Ngwenya, confirmed the reports saying as elders they were worried.
"Pupils have been mysteriously collapsing at the school and being attacked by goblins resulting in some refusing to attend lessons.
"The elders, teachers and parents had a meeting to try and come up with plans on how best this matter could be dealt with.
"It was then agreed that parents and the headmaster will write a letter to the District Education Officer (DEO) asking for approval to take some action against the troublesome goblins, unfortunately schools closed and nothing was done," said Ngwenya.
It is reported that the goblins were suspected to be in the form of baboons which were seen some time ago and disappeared only to surface violently now.
