Bar manager jailed 2 years for assaulting DJ with an empty beer bottle

A Harare bar manager who struck a disc jockey with an empty beer bottle after accusing him of playing "boring" music on New Year's Day has been jailed for an effective 2 years.
Jerard Matute of Kudu Inn Sports Bar pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Sandra Mupindu.
Nhau sentenced him to 3 years imprisonment of which one year was suspended on condition of good behaviour.
In passing sentence, Nhau said Matute's moral blameworthiness was very high as he first used an unbroken bottle to strike his victim before breaking it and hitting him on the back of his head.
She said only a custodial sentence was appropriate.
