A former Zanu PF youth member Fidelis Fengu has said independence day is a day of retrospect and a responsible citizen would know that it meant

service delivery to the nation instead of the collapse of big government institutions like the parastatals.

Zimbabwe celebrated its 37th independence on Tuesday amid outcry that it was on the celebration of the flag and suffering of of Zimbabweans while on  President Robert Mugabe and his henchmen were the only enjoying people in the country.

"Before I wish every Zimbabwean a happy independence day I would like to remind you all that with independence comes responsibility. The same

responsibility that saw the collapse of ZUPCO and the bus stops or stations that had a cool shade," Fengu said.

"Responsibility for the Grain Marketing Board GMB and the viability or lack thereof. Responsibility for the collapsed parks, swimming pools and social  amenities. Responsibility for the state of the roads. Responsibility for the collapse of the welfare system for persons with disabilities , the

elderly and other vulnerable groups that no longer have safety nets to cushion them."

He said he would have gone to industries and the like but in conclusion he will say that Independence day while it is a day of celebration must also

be a day of introspection for every Zimbabwean , is this the independence people want.

"The country we want and what do we do to build the best country for ourselves... Happy independence day and hope someone will take

responsibility for the state of the nation and the welfare of its people," he said.
