Traffic cops arrested for collecting bribes

Three traffic police officers based at Zimunya police post have been arrested after they were caught red handed collecting bribes from motorists at a police check point on independence day.
According to police internal memorandum written to police dispol for Mutare Rural from Zimunya police [post the arrested cops were constable Depute, constable Musekwa, constable Nyambandi all of Zimunya post Mutare Rural and they were arrested by Police Internal investigation team.
"This memorandum serves to inform and put on record the above captioned matter. On the 18th of April 2017 at around 0730 hours and at 9 miles Mutare-Masvingo highway Number 079149 Cst Depute, 079747 Cst Musekwa and 083868 E Cst Nyambandi who were at traffic enforcement deployment were arrested for receiving bribe from motorists by the Police Internal Investigations team," reads the memo.
"Circumstances are that on the 18th of April 2017 at around 0600 hours, the defaulters commenced traffic enforcement deployment at 9 miles Mutare-Masvingo highway. At around 0630 hours, Police Internal Investigation team comprising of number 047639 F A/I SABAU, 065436 A Sgt Munyikwa, 059005 K Cst Mandava, 981304 J Cst Kusemwa and 985411 Y Cst Munyoro noticed the defaulters who were on traffic enforcement and put them under surveillance."
The memo further states that the team noticed the defaulters collecting bribe from motorists and this prompted them to pounce on them.
"Upon arriving at the site, the team checked the books which were used by the defaulters. Z69(j) book number 53/17 was found with US$10-00 receipted and Z69(j) book 54/17 had no cash receipted. The declaration book was also checked and all members had declared nil cash," reads the memo.
"The defaulters were then searched. Cst Depute and Cst Musekwa were found with no cash in their possession. Cst Nyambandi was found with US$36-00 comprising of 2 bond notesx15 and US$1-00x6 with serial as on annexture. The money was not declared. The defaulters were then arrested and were brought to Zimunya Post. Investigations are still underway under Zimunya Post RRB number 2002/17."
