A 25-year-old woman from Caledonia Phase 1, Eastview, Harare, is nursing burns after she was allegedly set ablaze by her boyfriend.
Alice Jarisoni (25) claims that her boyfriend Tafadzwa Gibson (25) with whom she lives in a rented room, poured paraffin on her before setting her on fire after she accused him of having an affair with another woman.
Her body is covered in burns but Gibson is vigorously denying these accusations and says that Jarisoni just wants to smear his name.
Jarisoni says that she has been going out with Gibson for more than 9 months and had even introduced him to her mother, Martha Zulu, and adds that she had also met his relatives.
According to Jarisoni, their problems started after Gibson started going out with a girl she identified as Jesca from Mabvuku.
Apparently they argued for more than 2 hours from 5pm in the evening about the alleged affair. After that Jarisoni started cooking using a paraffin stove and claims that after giving Gibson food, he took a cup of the flammable liquid and poured it on her face and body and set her on fire.
Jarisoni says that she ran to her lover hoping he would put out the flames but he did not, in addition to that, he reportedly blocked the door so that she would not be able to go out and seek help.
Eventually Gibson is said to have run away enabling Jarisoni to seek help and was eventually taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
She is thankful to the doctors but says that she now owes the hospital $3 400 after they treated her first class degree burns. Jarisoni is worried about paying the bill as she no longer works.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Gibson's arrest. Jarisoni says that he was released a short time later and he and his relatives begged her to drop the case altogether, offering to pay her with a piece of land, a house and would also buy her medicine.
Apparently he wanted her to say that the stove had exploded on her. Jarisoni says that they made her sign a piece of paper, which she says she did not know the contents.
She wants the case to go be investigated.
