Woman convicted of assaulting hubby

The 23-year- old Umsengezi woman who made headlines after bashing her husband in Mvurwi has been convicted of assault charges.

Wilma Mukohiwa (23) appeared before Guruve magistrate Mr Artwel Sanyatwe and was given a wholly suspended 6 months custodial sentence on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next three years.

Mukohiwa was charged for contravening section 3 (i) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 05:16 by physically assaulting her husband Justin Muzuzuku (26) who sustained a swollen cheek after wards.

The woman pleaded guilty to the charge and told the court that she acted in self-defence after Muzuzuku tried to force her into indulging in sex.

During mitigation Mukohiwa also pleaded for lenience from the magistrate saying she had two minors who needed her guidance and she was a first offender.
