The Midlands chapter of the National People's Party (NPP) led by former Vice-President Joice Mujuru has launched a door-to-door campaign to drum up support in Gweru, ahead of next year's general elections.

NPP provincial chairperson, Tedious Chimombe, said his executive was already in election mode.

"We have since embarked on door-to-door campaigns in a bid to take the party closer to the people," Chimombe said yesterday.

"We will also be holding several rallies in the province as well as undertaking projects to empower the people."

Chimombe also disclosed that during the campaigns the party would be looking for suitable candidates to contest for parliamentary, council and senatorial elections.

Last month NPP held its provincial and national executive elections to choose new leadership following a breakaway with the Zimbabwe People First which Mujuru led before a fallout with founding members, Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo.

Recently Mujuru and MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai signed a memorandum of understanding committing themselves to working together and field one candidate to challenge President Robert Mugabe in next year's presidential elections.
