A city man dragged his ex-wife to court for neglecting their three children.
David Kofi sued Tapiwa Antonyo saying she abandoned the children only to return when she no longer had money.
Kofi demanded US$150.
He said:
"I only want her to be a responsible mother and help in maintaining the children.
"Whenever she has money she disappears and does not care of the children. She does not even care about the children
"She only took the children last month when I served her with court papers."
Kofi said he is a carpenter and his earnings can be enough to maintain the children but it is also the duty of the mother to help.
"I realise US$300 but taking care of the children is a reciprocal duty of both parents," he said.
In response, Antonyo said she is actually the one who is supposed to be claiming maintenance because the children in question are under her custody.
"I am offering nothing because I do not have the money I am struggling to make ends meet. He is the one who provide for yet he is claiming such an amount.
"I am not employed and I am the one staying with the children," she said.
Presiding magistrate Manassa Musiiwa dismissed the application and advised Kofi to approach the right court for children's custody.
