NEW Lobengula residents were spooked at the weekend when one resident's water taps suddenly had hot water running.
On Saturday Simiso Tshabalala who does not have a geyser had miracle hot water. So hot was the water that one could use it to make tea.
"I fetched water to put on the stove but to my surprise the tap water was lukewarm and when my bucket was half full the water started steaming.
"When I gauged its temperature with my hand it increased to an extent that I couldn't stand it anymore. Since we don't have a geyser I was shocked and called my neighbours to see," said Tshabalala.
Gogo Sangoma, a neighbour, said for the past 56 years she had never seen such.
"When she called me I thought it was one of her jokes but when I turned on the tap I was surprised by the water temperature," said Sangoma.
A city water works engineer who spoke on condition of anonymity was also baffled by the incident.
"I have been working for the city council for the past 18 years and I have never witnessed something like this. When it's too hot during the day, water pipes tend to absorb heat, but not to the point of having boiling water," he said.
