Zanu PF's Lalapanzi district chairperson Vitalis Nyesvu (59) from Chishuku Village 2A has appeared before Magistrate Morgan Nemadire last Tuesday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old.

It is also alleged that he tried to buy the parents' silence by offering a beast as payment for the crime.

It is the State case that on September 08, 2016 around 12pm the complainant was on her way to Savana Primary school when she met the accused in a bushy area coming from the opposite direction.

The State led by Kelvin Guvheya informed the court that the complainant greeted the accused who suddenly dragged the complainant in the bush and raped her.

It is alleged that the accused threatened to stab the complainant with a knife if she told anyone about the rape case.

Aunt to the complainant informed the court that on September 25, 2016 the minor revealed to her what had happened to her when she caught her with sweets that had been given to her by the accused and she then made a report to the Police leading to the arrest of Nyesvu on October 24, 2016.

The case trial continues on April 7, 2017 and Nyesvu is in Police custody.
