A 27-YEAR-OLD man is standing accused of kicking his neighbour following a misunderstanding sparked by a cigarette.

Simbarashe Raphel Ibrahim, who resides along Mukumbadzetse Road in Mufakose, is standing accused of causing the death of Joshua Ndawala whom he allegedly attacked after he snatched his cigarette.

Ibrahim, who had been initially charged with murder before the State changed his charge, is expected to appear before Harare magistrate Hoseah Mujaya on May 10 this year answering to culpable homicide charges.

State counsel, George Manokore, had it that on January 7 last year at around 11am, Ibrahim was seated on a bridge at corner of the street smoking his cigarette.

Reports are that the late Ndawala approached him, snatched the cigarette and started walking away whilst smoking it.

It appears as if that did not go down well with Ibrahim who then charged towards Ndawala, shoved him to the ground and kicked him twice before taking back his cigarette.

The State alleges that Ndawala became unconscious after the attack.

Ibrahim is said to have walked away leaving his neighbour lying on the ground.

The 27-year-old is said to have been informed by some of his neighbours that Ndawala was still lying on the ground which prompted him to return to the scene.

He was spared a bashing by onlookers after one Zivai Musarurwa whisked him and took him to Marimba police station.

Ndawala was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
