A female cop was beaten up by her husband for coming home without money from a long day at work.
Shamiso Ndawana, a police officer based in Zvishavane was beaten by her jobless husband Gibson Ngwenya because she failed to give him money.
Since Ngwenya was used to being spoilt by Ndawana, he became angry and did not understand how she had failed to make extra cash while on duty.
The fuming man lost his temper and meted instant justice on the woman leaving her right ear damaged.
Ndawana managed to escape and reported the matter to the police leading to Ngwenya's arrest.
Ngwenya was hauled before Zvishavane magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing physical abuse charges and was convicted on his own plea of guilty.
The court heard that on 1 March, Ngwenya arrived home at around 4am and woke up his wife demanding money for his welfare.
When she told him that the previous day she had been unable to get money, he got angry.
The sentiments did not go down well with him and he started quizzing Ndawana why she was not even answering her phone while on duty.
After revealing that she was busy, Ngwenya beat her up with open hands on the face and injured her right ear.
She reported the matter to the police and was referred to hospital for treatment.
According to a doctor's report, Ndawana's right ear lost hearing.
Ngwenya pleaded guilty to the charges saying he beat her up after discovering that she was cheating on him with a colleague.
The magistrate sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment of which eight months were suspended. The remaining 10 months were converted to 350 hours of community service.
