Opposition heading for a worse electoral defeat

MUTARE - Zanu PF-aligned cleric Reverend Obadiah Musindo has predicted that the opposition is heading for a worse electoral defeat in the 2018 election.
Speaking on the side-lines of his Destiny of Afrika Network (DANet) private social housing project in Mutare on Saturday said the MDC's support was not growing over previous elections and that it lacked any tact in growing its support.
"MDC put together with Mai Mujuru are not scaring us...we are not scared of them. They have no programs except that they are anti-Mugabe," Musindo said adding that if the opposition lost to a weakened Zanu PF in 2013 it had strengthened over the years.
"This so-called coalition is a loose coalition. Look at the graph for MDC support, it's the same. They have no programs. If there was opposition in Zimbabwe it could have won in 2013 but (Morgan) Tsvangirai was defeated by a party which was facing so many challenges but still people went and voted for it.
"With command agriculture - maize, cotton and so on and on our side housing their loss will only be worse come next year," he said.
He said Zanu PF was busy working the ground in preparation for the elections.
"We know the weaknesses and strengths of the opposition," he said.
Musindo said the ruling party, which has been winning elections the opposition has always contested and accused it of rigging, had 'bags' of 'tricks' to win the anticipated 2018 election.
"Come 2018, we have strategies - bags, we don't have a bag, we have huge bags full of tricks to win those elections. We are going to win these elections.
"The people that you saw (thousands of his housing scheme members) are all campaign managers for the ruling party. Each person will bring four or five people some 10, some 15 to vote for Zanu PF," Musindo said.
He said the current cash crisis was not likely to affect the next election.
"This is temporary. I can't speak for monetary issues, I'm not an authority but I'm convinced this will be resolved soon," he said.
