Assault over HIV

A Waterfalls couple was dragged to court on allegations of jointly assaulting their neighbour with a cup and a hoe on the head and kicking her all over the body.

Precious Gwenje, 28, and Kizito Gwenje, 56, appeared before Mbare magistrate Gladys Moyo answering to charges of assault.

The matter was deferred to May 9 for trial continuation.

Prosecuting, Lawrence Gangarahwe reported that on April 23 at around 9:30am, the complainant Nesbert Mafungautsi was at Irvine's when she was approached by Precious and Kizito who alleged that Mafungautsi is labelling their daughter as HIV positive.

Precious and Kizito alleged that Mafungautsi was tarnishing their image by spreading such lies.

However, Mafungautsi denied the allegations before Precious picked a cup and struck Mafungautsi on the head and again picked a hoe which she used to hit her on the head.

Kizito then allegedly joined in and struck Mafungautsi on the shoulder with a stone and kicked her on the mouth before assaulting her all over the body using hands.

Mafungautsi later made a police report leading to the arrest of Precious and Kizito.

Mafungautsi sustained injuries from the assault and was medically examined.
