President Mugabe yesterday left Zimbabwe for Singapore for his routine medical check-up hardly a week after rejecting the profiling that Zimbabwe was 'a fragile State' and instead declaring it is the second most developed in Africa..
He is expected back in Zimbabwe at the weekend in time for the burial of National Hero, Retired Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku.
The President is expected to officiate at the burial set for the National Heroes Acre on Saturday.
Government officials claim that Mugabe is in Singapore on official business. However, Mugabe has made regular trips to Singapore for medical check-ups, and his health is a frequent subject of speculation.
In 2011, WikiLeaks released a US diplomatic cable from 2008 saying that Mugabe was reported to have prostate cancer and had less than five years to live.
In 2016, the government had to deny that he had died abroad during his annual vacation. He normally go to Singapore in February for his annual check up. However, the veteran leader's critics say his overseas medical trips testify to the collapse of Zimbabwe's public health system since the economy started to fall apart in 2000.
In a statement, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said the President will be back on Saturday May 13.
Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko is the Acting President.
