The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority has challenged the tax payers to stop engaging in a cat and mouse game with its officials and try to abide by the taxation procedures and regulations.

Zimra Acting Commissioner General Happias Kuzvinzwa said they all agree that it is not good for taxpayers to play cat and mouse games with the Authority or to say, ‘catch me if you can'.

He said the advice is soon or later the arm of the law will catch up with any tax evader and smuggler.

"ZIMRA is, therefore, determined to promote a culture of voluntary tax compliance in Zimbabwe. The media fraternity is encouraged to continue playing the important function of disseminating tax information to improve on voluntary compliance," he said.

"After this workshop and going forward, the culture of voluntary compliance and voluntary disclosure on tax matters will be part of the DNA of the Zimbabwean taxpayers. My team will unpack for your appreciation ZIMRA's role, mission and mandate, major projects which the Authority is undertaking and bring clarity to some issues for your ease of coverage and to enhance our two-way relationship so that together we can reach out to our audiences with balanced and accurate messages."

He said the deeper understanding of Tax and Customs matters is critical as the media are the opinion leaders and mouthpieces of the voiceless and the Nation at large.

"Enjoy the workshop and let's partner for a good cause and give dignity to your tax collector. Let's take taxation to the people," he said.
