A MAN FROM Selbourne Park in Bulawayo who claimed to be selling housing stands thereby luring a resident to pay him over R34 500 for the stands has appeared in court charged with fraud.
Zenzo Sibanda (53) has not been asked to plead to fraud when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya who remanded him out of custody to May 22 for trial.
The court was told that Sibanda defrauded Elizabeth Ncube aged 62 of Nketa 7. It is alleged that he approached the lady in Febraury 2011 and told her that he was selling housing stands. Ncube told him that she was interested to buy one and was coming from Cowdray Park housing office to look for a stand to develop for business purposes into a bottle store.
Sibanda said he was selling one business stand in Rangemore Mbundani area and was valuing it at $34 500 including charges for drafting the plan.
The complainant was interested and the two went to the city centre where Sibanda had an office.
The two arranged they would meet the following day at Ncube's house and later go to the stand. After seeing the stand Ncube was satisfied and she started making payments. She completed paying in November 16 2011 and she had paid a total of R34 500 after which Sibanda gave her receipts.
Sibanda allegedly used the whole money but Ncube later discovered that the stand did not belong to Sibanda anyhow.
