Man bludgeoned with iron bar, left for dead

A MAN who approached a neighbour to claim what belonged to his family ended up losing more than what he stood to gain.
Little Masuku (56) from New Lobengula who stays with a nephew was left for dead after he went to his neighbour Aleck Ndlovu's house to recover roofing sheets and one bag of cement left by his sister who passed away sometime last year.
The demand didn't go down well with Ndlovu who accused Masuku of insulting his grandmother.
Masuku was severely battered with an iron bar and lost his left eye. In shielding himself from further harm from Ndlovu, Masuku used his arms which were broken in the process.
Masuku strongly believes had the beating continued he could have died.
"I had no option but to play dead to survive. If I had resisted, I would be dead by now, Ndlovu severely attacked me after I had innocently asked for the roofing sheets that my sister left at his place before she passed away," said Masuku.
After realising that Masuku was unconscious, Ndlovu reportedly called his neighbour Ngwenya seeking help to dump Masuku's body on the tarred road.
"I could hear Ndlovu telling Ngwenya to dump my body in the nearby maize field or tarred road to appear as if I was run over by a car. But Ngwenya refused and insisted that they report the matter to the police. That's the last time I heard them speaking," he said.
A visibly shaken Masuku, struggling to lift his arms to scratch his forehead due to the burden of plaster, said that if it wasn't for his nephew who found him in the storm drain the next morning he would have succumbed to severe injuries which he is still nursing.
"No one came to my help, until the next morning. My nephew found me in the storm drain. That's when an ambulance was called and they ferried me to hospital where I was admitted for more than a week and my left eye was eventually removed due to severe damages," he said.
What irks Masuku more is that despite reporting the matter to the police his attacker was still on the run and he has a huge United Bulawayo Hospitals bill to settle.
"I understand Ndlovu was arrested on 20 April but due to my injuries I couldn't go to the police station to make a statement. I understand he has been on the run, I just want justice to take its course. Right now I am struggling to settle the hospital bills, as my eye was removed at UBH, I owe them more than $179," he said.
