Fertiliser manufacturers face liquidity challenges

The fertiliser manufacturing industry says it is facing challenges in meeting the demands of Ammonium Nitrate fertiliser for the 2O11-2O12 farming season owing to liquidity challenges.
In an interview with ZBC News, fertiliser industry spokesperson, Mr. Misheck Kachere said there are shortages of ammonium fertiliser in the country at the moment due to liquidity constraints.
Kachere, however, said there is still hope as 300 000 tonnes of ammonium fertiliser have been imported though they are yet to be collected from Beira as the full payment has not been made.
Fertiliser has been in short supply and over the New Year holidays farmers jostled at GMB depots to access the commodity under government schemes.
However, there have been complaints that there is abuse of the facilities provided by government, a situation which has resulted in a few people benefitting.
