A MZILIKAZI man raped a woman for turning down his love proposal.
Philip Nsimbi (30) allegedly proposed love to a 23-year-old woman at Emagumeni Sports Bar where she was having drinks with a friend and the response didn't go down well with him.
He is said to have responded to the rejection by choking the woman, leaving her with wounds on her neck.
It is alleged that the issue did not end there as he decided to stalk the woman.
Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya heard that two days later, as the woman was walking along Vera Road coming from the same bar, she heard a man from behind her back whispering in IsiNdebele saying: "Wena wule mana khonapho" (you prostitute wait up) and when she looked she realised it was Nsimbi.
He grabbed her jacket collar, pushed her and forcibly dragged her to Barbourfields Stadium's entry gate.
The lady screamed for help but her efforts were fruitless and Nsimbi slapped her twice on her cheeks ordering her to remove her panties.
Nsimbi instructed her to kneel down an order she complied out of fear. The man then pulled up her dress and raped her.
During the act, the victim heard people passing by and screamed for help and Nsimbi threatened her but a Good Samaritan came to the rescue.
Nsimbi was taken to Mzilikazi Police Station. He appeared in court on 16 May charged with rape and was remanded in custody to a later date.
