A Lupane State University student ran amok stabbing five students on their buttocks after he caught his lover in the arms of a love rival.
It is said Nigel Moyo last week on Friday caught his lover Charmaine Mudau in the hands of a student only identified as Shavirai. When he tried to ask what they were doing Shavirai turned him into a punching bag.
Shavirai left him on the ground gasping for breath. Nigel reportedly went to his room and fetched a knife. He headed straight to Shavirai's room.
When Shavirai saw him he took to his heels but he caught up with him and stabbed him once in the buttocks.
In a fit of rage, Nigel stabbed Weaver Ncube in the buttocks and also knifed Anelka Nyasha in the buttocks when they were trying to restrain him.
Contacted for a comment Mudau confirmed the incident.
"It is true that Nigel fought with five students and stabbed them in the buttocks. But I can't say much because the issue is being handled by the University authorities. May you please do me a favour and not publish my name," she said.
Efforts to get a comment from Shavirai were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.
A witness, Gertrude Nhliziyo, confirmed the incident.
"We were having a mini-party. Shavirai decided to dance with Charmaine. When they were dancing and hugging Nigel came in. An argument ensued and generated into a fist fight. Nigel was hit and left lying on the ground," she said.
She added: "After some minutes Nigel came back wielding and waving a knife prompting everyone to scurry for cover. He stabbed Shavirai, Weaver and Anelka, leaving them lying on the ground. He also stabbed two male students that were trying to restrain him. All victims were ferried to St Luke's hospital."
Nigel was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
Lupane State University Director for Public Relations and Marketing Zwelithini Dlamini confirmed the incident.
"The incident happened and as a university we would like to urge students not to take the law into their own hands. I cannot comment much on the matter because it is being handled by the police," he said.
