Madzibaba slash woman's crops

JOHANNE Masowe yeChishanu members last Friday clashed with a St Martins elderly woman after they slashed her maize field along Seke Road to clear their place of worship.
The unidentified elderly woman engaged police and met with the sect leaders after she demanded three hundred dollars as compensation for her destroyed maize. "We failed to agree with that elderly woman because her demands were more than what one gets from a hectare," said one of the sect leaders refusing to identify himself.
Meanwhile, the Johanne Masowe members had their own claims against Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa,
"We lost our place of worship to Makandiwa who destroyed our clay pots, clothes and other sticks we use to worship."
Makandiwa stretched his financial muscle and ordered graders to clear the place without notice.
"Please do not publish this story because we are still negotiating with the owner of this new place.
"We do not allow people to take photographs of us in our white garments at the same time we are praying for a minister who need protection," he said commanding the H-Metro crew to delete the photographs.
United Family International Church acquired the open place near Sunningdale Primary School to construct a secondary school, a move welcomed by Sunningdale residents.
Contacted for comment UFIC spokesperson Prophet Prime Kufakunesu said all worshipers who were using the place were given enough time to vacate along with their belongings.
"There were many apostolic groups there and there were all notified more than seven weeks prior to commencement of clearing the place," said Prophet Kufakunesu.
"This was done through Cllr Hammy Madzingira who also notified members of the community who had cropping on the land to harvest their crop, to which they complied. In fact, we delayed the commencement of clearing by nine days as we waited for some of the people to finish harvesting their crop.
"Everyone concerned had enough time to make their necessary moves and it is very unfair for anyone to try and point a finger at us in that manner. Members of the community and the other apostolic gatherings in the area will actually confirm that they expressed their gratitude for our patience and tolerance," said Prophet Kufakunesu.
