A political commentator Chamunorwa Mafaraā€ˇ has insinuated that MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai has proved to be a coward after he ran away in 2008 after winning the elections against President Robert Mugabe.

Tsvangirai went to Botswana when it seemed imminent that he was the winner of the polls fearing for his life as the Army generals had vowed not to salute anyone without war credentials even if he wins the elections.

"Cowardice, lack of vision and strategy are the worst traits that can be found in a leader. For any leader who possesses these traits, condemns his or her followers to a life of disappointment and misery. Pastor Evan, a man who had single-handedly brought a whole nation to a standstill, lost the support of multitudes who were behind him because he ran at the most critical moment," Mafara said.

"When he started his campaign he knew he had a family. He knew the people he was confronting. But when the general povo overwhelmingly rallied behind he got overwhelmed and forgot the reason why he had started what he started and he ran. This also true of Tsvangirai, who after winning the 2008 polls, he was overwhelmed and he ran. It seems he himself did not have confidence in winning which is why he didn't have a strategic plan of assuming office after the polls."

He said the win surprised him to the point of skipping the country and spending months in Botswana.

"Zimbabwe missed the opportunity for change on these two occasions. The question is, can leaders with such tendencies of abandoning the people at such critical moments of the struggle be trusted?" he said.
