A 22-year-old woman who allegedly indecently assaulted another woman as a way of punishing her for stealing a cellphone has appeared in court. Tafadzwa Nematombo of Unity O, Seke in Chitungwiza was not asked to plead to aggravated indecent assault charges when she appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Babra Chimboza. Ms Chimboza remanded her to February 2 for trial.

Allegations are that on November 30 last year at around 12 midnight, Nematombo went to Linda Dera's place in the company of six other people. Upon arrival, she demanded her cellphone that she alleged was stolen by Dera. Dera admitted to the theft, but said that she gave the phone to someone else.

This did not go down well with Nematombo who then ordered her to recover the phone.

After failing to locate the cellphone, Nematombo took Dera to her house and detained her before ordering her to remove her undergarments. Nematombo inserted her three fingers into Dera's private parts, saying she was punishing her for the theft.

They retired to bed and Nematombo took Dera to Dema Police Station the following morning where she was detained. She filed a report against Nematombo for the sexual assault, resulting in her arrest. Mr Henry Muringwa represented the State.
