A love-struck teenager reportedly chose to abandon school and her home just to co-habit at Ngozi Mine, an informal municipal dumpsite settlement, with her newly found love.
Tinashe Mutengwa (35) managed to win the 15-year-old girl's heart after promising to buy her new clothes.
Without wasting time, the two who had met in Kwekwe proceeded to Ngozi mine where they asked for accommodation for three days while they built their own shack.
However, after two weeks, police pounced at Ngozi mine looking for Mutengwa in connection with a theft case and that is how the issue of having sexual intercourse with a minor came to light.
Mutengwa was then arrested on charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor, but it was later changed to rape when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Lungile Ncube.
The court heard that on 9 April at around 10am, the complainant was with her friends at a certain squatter camp in Kwekwe when the accused proposed love to her.
He promised to take her to Bulawayo if she accepted his proposal and to buy her new clothes, leading the girl to accept the proposal.
On that very day, they left for Bulawayo and the accused took the complainant to Ngozi mine.
They stayed for about three days at the accused's nephew's shack and later constructed theirs.
The reportedly had sexual intercourse several times and during the nights, the accused always left the complainant alone.
Mutengwa's sexual escapades with the minor came to light when police arrested him on theft charges and the girl's mother was informed about her daughter's whereabouts.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 29 May.
