THE nurse who reportedly raped a patient in a cubicle at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is still on the run and is believed to have skipped the country.
Taurai Mazarura, 32, was allegedly caught by another nurse on duty indulging in sex with a 17-year-old patient on February 19 before jumping off the patient and running away.
A source told H-Metro that the hospital and police were still to locate Mazarura although he is highly believed to have left the country following the incident.
Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals public relations department confirmed that the nurse was still on the run before referring all the questions to the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Contacted for comment, National police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said he was out of town, promising to give a detailed update when he is back although he also confirmed that the nurse was still at large.
Mazarura, who had just joined the hospital after close to two years without a job, was caught red handed by another nurse abusing the teenager before he fled the scene.
The victim is a street urchin who had been admitted after she was hit by a car and sustained injuries.
She had been offered appropriate medical care and counselling following the incident.
The ward had three other patients admitted and another nurse on duty is said to have caught Taurai red handed after she opened the cubicle to check if all was well.
Taurai's last known residence was in Mufakose and he is said to have trained for General Nursing at Harare Central Hospital before his appointment at Parirenyatwa on November 9 last year.
He was believed to be a drug addict who abused medicines in the hospital.
