A MAN (23) from Bulawayo has been arrested for bedding his 15 year-old lover and cohabiting with her for three days.
A court heard that the couple met at a Seventh Day Adventist church last year and established a relationship.
Justice Nkomo pleaded guilty to a charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor.
Western Commonage Magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube remanded him in custody to Monday next week.
He told the court that he was not aware of her age.
"Your Worship I did sleep with her but the problem is, I didn't know her age. She told me that she was 16. I only found out about her real age recently," said Nkomo.
Prosecuting, Ms Magret Takawira told the court that the teenager visited Nkomo one evening from a church service and she didn't return home.
"Accused and complainant started having a relationship in December last year and had consensual protected sexual intercourse on several occasions since then. On May 27 complainant went to an evening church service and after the service she diverted to accused's place of residence," said Ms Takawira.
She added: "In the morning complainant said she was afraid to go back home so she spent two more nights at the accused's place. On the fourth day she told accused that she wanted to go home so he accompanied her. They met complainant's parents on the road who asked her where she had been."
Ms Takawira said the teen's parents made a report to the police leading to Nkomo's arrest.
