Heads are likely to roll at the National Housing and Social Amenities Ministry following revelations that newly born babies were among the recipients of new flats under the Willowvale Housing Project Phase II.
Giles Mutsekwa (MDC-T), the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, whose ministry oversaw the project, is already walking on a tight rope as his rivals within the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) coalesced with the other coalition partners to get him to account.
Mutsekwa, had sought to gag the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Housing and Public Works last year on their questioning of the Willowvale Housing Project Phase II.
He alleged the Committee was behaving like the Criminal Investigation Department and that it was not their role to investigate the alleged corruption in his ministry.
The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Housing and Public Works started the ball rolling this week by summoning Mutsekwa to appear before it next week as part of investigations into the housing scandal.
Legislators from ZANU-PF and the two MDC formations, who want the culprits behind the irregular allocation of flats prosecuted are pushing for the establishment of a commission of inquiry whose scope could be widened to cover other housing projects funded by the inclusive government.
