Makokoba named Bulawayo's dirtiest suburb

One of Bulawayo's oldest suburbs, Makokoba, has been identified as the dirtiest in the city in terms of waste management with litter being thrown at almost every corner.
Speaking to the media after a tour of the suburb, Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Bulawayo Provincial Manager, Mr Decent Ndlovu said they are worried about the littering that is taking place in the suburb, adding that there is need for the people to take up the initiative to clean their area.
He said Entumbane was also another litter hotspot but the people worked together in apprehending the culprits, resulting in the area being amongst the cleanest in the city now.
Makokoba Residents Association Chairperson, Mr Raymond Gombedza said they will continue encouraging the residents not to litter the area and complement the local authority's efforts in cleaning the city.
Bulawayo City Council Public Relations Officer, Ms Nesisa Mpofu appealed to the Makokoba community to keep their place clean, saying this will assist them to prevent diseases such as typhoid.
EMA is on a drive to ensure that the city remains the cleanest in the country in terms of waste and sewer management.
