There was drama in Burawa village under Chief Chipuriro in Guruve when a 58 year old man chased a cop away with a log after he had come to arrest his son, a maintenance defaulter, at his home stead.
Public prosecutor Ms Venesencia Musiiwa told the court that on 19 June 2017 Philmon Kadzviti allegedly chased after Stabon Chamunorwa a police officer at Guruve station after he had come to pick Kadzviti's son who had a warrant of arrest over maintenance.
Chamurwa fled for his dear life and hid in a bushel where the furious Kadzviti passed at a tremendous speed without noticing the trap.
The cop then came from Kadzviti's back and arrested him.
Questioned in court about the matter by Guruve magistrate Shingirai Mutiro, the accused said he did not know he was chasing after the cop.
"Your worship l did not know l was chasing a cop, l subsequently realized he was a cop when he arrested me so l am pleading guilty," he said.
The magistrate said: "You are not admitting since you said that when you committed the offense you did not know you were chasing a cop."
He was remanded to 7 July for continuation of trial having contravened criminal law codification reform act 09.23 that is "Defeating or Obstructing course of Justice."
Meanwhile, his son Kudakwashe Kadzviti who had defaulted maintenance and had prompted the cop's visit managed to escape on the day in question and is currently on the run.
