All UZ medical students chased away from halls of residence

All University of Zimbabwe medical students have been directed to vacate the halls of residence on campus and off campus with immediate effect following protest action against fee hikes.
The University of Zimbabwe medical students today gathered at the student's union building at the campus in Harare in protest over misunderstandings regarding the issue of their academic fees.
In a statement, the university's registrar, Mr Sergeant Chevo said the medical students later started throwing stones a behaviour the university does not tolerate.
Mr Chevo said earlier this month the Vice Chancellor met the students' executive and discussed among other issues the issue of academic fees for medical students and it was pointed out that the medical students pay US$450 per semester of 15 weeks, for 3rd year medical students' 30 week semester, they should pay US$900.
During the meeting with the medical students it was agreed that they could apply for a payment plan while attending lectures.
