Man calls wife granny

A Kuwadzana 50-year-old man who labelled his wife a granny told the court that his spouse was possessed by spirit mediums and was making it difficult to live harmoniously in their matrimonial home.

Champion Kamonere was dragged to court by his wife Lizzie Kamonere who was seeking a protection order.

He told the court that his wife was possessed ever since her father's death.

He said:

"I call my wife granny because of the way she behaves; she is now in the habit of reporting me to the police station making false accusations against me.

"When her father died she started roaring like a lion at night.

"I have tried to seek traditional help since there are some ancestral spirits on her but nothing changed.

"We now sleep in separate rooms because of that situation.

"She doesn't get along with her family members.

"She just says whatever she wants, she left home on June 12 and I am seeing her in court today.

"I do not have any problem if she is granted the protection order," said Champion.

Lizzie in response denied what her husband said.

"He insults me and bars me from coming into the bedroom saying that I roar at night.

"He has been violent for a long time and I am always staying in fear.

"He threatens to kill me as well.

"I have also heard rumours that he is now seeing another woman."

Presiding Magistrate Amanda Muridzo granted Lizzie the protection order she sought.
