THE Joice Mujuru-led opposition National People's Party (NPP) reportedly continued to lose its top officials with the party's Bulawayo provincial spokesperson, Geneva Sibanda, stepping down yesterday citing other pressing personal commitments.

Sibanda joins over 50 other NPP members from Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North provinces who quit the party last week citing factionalism and tribalism.

"To all my friends and colleagues, may I take this opportunity to thank you so much for the journey we travelled together since the formation of this party and the support you gave me as the Bulawayo provincial spokesperson," Sibanda said in a WhatsApp message to fellow party members.

"I am so much pressed with so many things at the moment, part of it being a research project I am currently involved in and other. I am therefore taking sabbatical leave to focus on the said and also put my life on track."

Sibanda was not reachable for comment as his mobile phone went unanswered.

But, party spokesperson Methuseli Moyo yesterday downplayed the issue saying Sibanda had simply taken a vacation and would resume his duties.

"I doubt if he resigned from the party. He is still there. I think he meant that he will not be active," he said.
