A MUTARE woman allegedly took away all the matrimonial property and left her former husband stranded with virtually nothing, the Mutare Civil Courts heard last week.

Clara Nzeru last Monday came to the courts claiming maintenance from ex-hubby, Chawapuwa Tinarwo.

Tinarwo made the allegations on Monday after he was dragged to court for failing to maintain his two children aged nine and five respectively. He argued that there was really no need for him to pay maintenance since Nzeru had vacated the matrimonial home with almost everything he had worked for.

He, however, later offered $50 for the upkeep of his two children after Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sharon Chipanga advised him that it was their dual responsibility to take care of the children.

In her ruling, she ordered Tinarwo to pay $55 every month.

However, it was Tinarwo who stunned the courts by alleging that Nzeru wanted to chew more than she could swallow.

He instead argued that Nzeru should get the maintenance by selling the property she acquired.

"She left with almost everything. The house is empty as we speak. She should sell what she took and get maintenance from there.

"I will buy new property when the time comes. She took a bed and stove and yet she needs maintenance. Besides that I have two other children whom she does not know," he said.

Nzeru, a vendor, however, denied the allegations.

She confirmed that she took their matrimonial property.

Initially, she wanted $100 as monthly maintenance and later reviewed it to $60 after Tinarwo produced in court that he earns $120.

"The property is at his grandmother's place, I only took a stove. He is lying that I vanished with all the property. I just want the money for the upkeep of the children," she said.
