The five-day strike which was announced by the civil servants representative body, the Apex Council, last week has hit hard on the education sector as most schools, especially in the high density suburbs are not conducting lessons.

Some teachers are reported to have dismissed pupils early in the morning.

However, some civil servants in other government departments opted for a sit-in.

Apex Council Chairperson, Mrs. Tendai Chikowore told Zbc News that the strike will continue.

On Thursday last week, civil servants engaged in a one-day strike in protest over the failure by the Minister of Public Service, Ms Lucia Matibenga to meet them on Tuesday the 17th of January as she had earlier promised.

After the one-day industrial action, Ms Matibenga did not address their concerns resulting in the Apex Council calling for a five-day strike.

Analysts however say the industrial action by civil servants could have been averted had the responsible Minister not employed bully boy tactics in dealing with government workers.
