A DISPUTE over meat at a funeral nearly turned fatal after a 26-year-old Chimanimani man axed a fellow villager recently.
Lloyd Munjari (26) of Kwanaka Village in Chief Mutambara's area appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mr Tendai Mabwe, facing assault charges as defined in Section 89 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence, leaving him to serve an effective 18-month jail term.
Prosecuting, Mr Fletcher Karombe, said: "On June 15, Munjari was at Nedziwa Business Centre when he had an argument with Tendai Neshiri (41) on why he had failed to get meat at a recent funeral. Munjari pocked Neshiri. Sensing danger, Neshiri left the place."
He added: "At around 6pm and at Mukutya Beerhall, Munjari grabbed Neshiri by the collar and threatened to kill him. Neshiri managed to hide in the toilet."
