A road accident victim has called for the review of laws to ensure that errant drivers are punished.

This comes as the government has come up with the Road Accident Fund to assist accident victims.

38-year old Dorika John sustained serious injuries in an accident and had to folk out US$3700 for a hip operation.

Now required to raise another US$4000 to complete the procedure, Dorika is appealing for assistance to cater for her medical bills.

Speaking to the reporters, Dorika said it is sad that accident victims like her continue to suffer at the hands of errant drivers who often go scot free.

"The driver in my case was fined just US$20 and such a fine is a mockery to justice," she said. The accident occurred on the 28th of April in 2014 after the driver of the commuter omnibus she was travelling negligently caused the accident.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) continues to urge all motorist to observe the rules and regulations of the road so as to reduce carnage on the roads.

The establishment of the Road Accident Fund will see accident victims getting compensation.
