The civil servants representative body, the Apex Council, has suspended the planned five-day strike to allow negotiations with the National Joint Negotiation Committee on Wednesday.
After two days of industrial action, civil servants have suspended the planned five-day strike to pave way for negotiations with government.
The civil servants representatives are expected to meet with the National Joint Negotiation Committee this Wednesday to discuss salary reviews.
Addressing journalists in the capital, Chairperson of the Apex Council, Mrs. Tendai Chikowore said the civil service is dedicated to efficient delivery of services and would want to normalise the situation quickly, hence the decision to suspend the strike while negotiations are underway.
Various organisations which make up the Apex Council however expressed hope that their salaries will be raised above the poverty datum line which currently stands at $505.
Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Secretary General, Mr. Raymond Majongwe however had no kind words for the Minister of Public Service, Ms Lucia Matibenga whom he accused of continuously snubbing any meeting with civil servants preferring to communicate with them through the media.
