The Zbc on Wednesday reported that the Constitution Select Committee (COPAC) has completed 18 of the 19 chapters of the proposed constitutional draft.
The 18 chapters are now ready for analysis by the different stakeholders, paving way for the writing of the draft constitution if all parties append their signatures to the document.
Updating the nation on the progress made so far, COPAC co- chairperson, Cde Paul Mangwana noted that the drafters, who have now adopted full instructions provided for by COPAC, have been able to come up with the 18 chapters which will be analysed by the stakeholders, paving way for the writing of the draft constitution.
Another co-chairperson, Mr. Douglas Mwonzora noted that the 19th chapter will consist of the 'parked issues' such as mono or dual citizenship, the issue of devolution of powers among others which have since been referred to the management committee.
While Zimbabweans have been doubting the capability of the COPAC team to come up with a people driven constitution, the body that was given the mandate to write the supreme law of the land, however, assured stakeholders that they are working to ensure that all the constitutional matters gathered from the outreach process will be included.
Though the COPAC team is claiming that they have made progress, all the set timelines have not been met and the date for the Second All Stakeholders Meeting is not yet known.
