The MDC official Discent Collins Bajila has said the Constitutional Amendment of the clauses about the appointment of the Chief Justice was a clear victory for the Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa's faction who were against the appointment of Justice Luke Malaba.

"Constitutional Amendment Number One was passed by Parliament of Zimbabwe. The Amendment gives the President powers to appoint Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Judge President without going through the Judicial Services Commission, amongst other powers," Bajila said.
"Those who were alive when Justice Anthony Gubbay got a visit from a mob of war veterans will remember that when he tried to get protection from the state, he was informed that the state can no longer guarantee his safety if he doesn't give in to the demands of the mob. The mob demanded his resignation."
Bajila said what is significant is that part of the war veterans who constituted that mob, which visited Retired Justice Gubbay are now Members of Parliament and they supported yesterday's event.
"It is also important to note that the current Minister of Justice leads a faction of Government that was initially opposed to the ascendance of the current Chief Justice His Worship Luke Malaba. The same Minister doubles up as Vice President of the country with undisputed Presidential ambitions," Bajila said.
"The fix that Justice Malaba finds himself in is bare to all with eyes."
