A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN from Kuwadzana 5 yesterday appeared in court accused of raping a heavily pregnant woman before killing her in a bushy area two kilometers away from her house.
Nesbert Gwindi allegedly took the woman to the bushy area on the guise of showing her a piece of land her husband had bought. He was not asked to plead to murder when he appeared before Harare magistrate Anita Tshuma charged with murder.
Nesbert was remanded in custody to February 10 and was advised to apply for bail at the High court.
It was also noted that Gwindi has five pending cases of rape before the court. Prosecutor David Magwegwe alleges that on October 22 around 3pm, Gwindi went to the now late Prudence Kwaramba's residence and requested to see her.
The court heard that Gwindi told the woman that he had been sent by her husband to show her a piece of land he had bought.
The court heard that the woman was convinced by Gwindi's explanation and they left the house towards Rayldale Ridge bush area in Granary.
After walking for about two kilometers, the pregnant Prudence reportedly told Gwindi that she was tired and sat down. Allegations are that Gwindi grabbed her and forced her to lie on her back and removed her pant and raped her.
Further allegations are that Gwindi then strangled the woman by the neck and she died on the spot.
Gwindi then disappeared.
The court heard that on January 24, Gwindi made indications on where he committed the offence upon the woman.
