Govt pays batch of civil servants bonuses

THE Government yesterday paid another batch of civil servants their July salaries and 2016 bonuses, with the grant aided institutions expected to receive their dues on Thursday next week. Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Prisca Mupfumira confirmed the payment yesterday but could not give more details.

"We are paying our civil servants according to the announced payment schedule just as the Government promised. This is our last month to pay bonuses which had been staggered since April. However, I have to check the exact group of civil servants that has been paid," said Minister Mupfumira.

She said Government was committed to paying civil servants their dues and will continue making efforts to improve their welfare Government workers from the registry department confirmed that they received their salaries and bonuses on Wednesday. "Our salaries and bonuses reflected in the bank accounts on Wednesday. We're happy that the Government has fulfilled its promise to pay us our bonuses," said a registry official who asked not to be named.

In a letter dated July 24, 2017, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Professor Francis Gudyanga told Vice Chancellors of State Universities that the workers will get their bonuses next week. "The ministry is in receipt of Treasury minutes dated July 11, 2017 in which it proposes to support payment of July 2017 salaries and 2016 bonuses to employees of state universities on August 10, 2017.

"Payment dates for the month of August will be communicated in due course," said Prof Gudyanga.
