MDC official Discent Collins Bajila has said MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe and other top officials of the party think that they have definite authority to distribute power amid the violence which erupted at the party offices on Sunday.

Bajila said he understands the position of Thokozani Khupe and her supporters quite well.

He said their position is that Morgan Tsvangirai has over the years faced so much heckling and vilification from numerous corners of the country including Matebeleland.

"They have correctly identified themselves as the people who have stood with Morgan Tsvangirai through the thick of things and therefore feel that they deserve to have a definite say on the distribution of power in Matebeleland," he said.

"This is the level at which engagement should begin. There are however certain unfortunate realities that need to be faced and interrogated before engagement on these issues. The first reality is that the popularity of Morgan Tsvangirai in the region has been on a steady decline over the past years with the exception of 14 Constituencies namely Binga North, Binga South and the 12 Constituencies that form Bulawayo Province. These are the only places that have consistently stood with Morgan Tsvangirai even in the face of unfair tactics of ZANU PF."

Bajila said Matebeleland is made up of 38 constituencies and this means that there are 24 Constituencies in the region that are elusive to Morgan Tsvangirai.

"If the alliance was just about making Morgan Tsvangirai a President, it would make sense to then say when it comes to Matebeleland, the coalition must restrict itself to the 24 elusive constituencies. However the alliance is neither about Morgan Tsvangirai nor about 38 of the 210 constituencies," he said.

"The second reality to face is that there's no condemnation, even by the numerous women's rights groups and feminist voter lobbyists, of the fact that one of the signatories to the alliance is a self confessed rapist. The plotting that is open to all is around ensuring that whatever coalition is formed, there must be no room for the imagination of Welshman Ncube as a senior or equal person when it comes to the people from Matebeleland. Dennis Mutyasira, Agrippa Mutambara, Jacob Ngarivhume and all can get anything they want. It is Welshman Ncube and the party he leads who must be marked north, east west and south of the coalition alliance matrix."

"I am not sure whether at this juncture it could be appropriate to remind us of the biblical story of King Solomon or I should attempt at an inquiry on whether it is a superiority complex that makes people think that there's nothing one can do to 210 without 38 or it is an inferiority complex that makes powerful people think they can be replaced in the ratio 3:1," he added.

Bajila said in his latest BBC HardTalk interview Ncube said " If we're to agree on Morgan Tsvangirai as the Presidential Candidate, it will be very important for us to ensure that the people who have consistently stood by him over the years, form the core of the team ".
