RESIDENTS from Nkulumane 5 suburb in Bulawayo were left shocked when a visually impaired man decided to end his life by hanging himself from his bedroom after he complained of being tormented by evil spirits.

Sebastian Phiri's lifeless body was found by his sister Precious dangling from the roof of his bedroom last Friday. The two stayed together.

According to sources who spoke to B-Metro trouble started when Sebastian wanted to go to an all night prayer without putting on a jersey. Precious sternly ordered him to put on a jersey because in the event that he fell ill she would bear the burden.

This didn't go down well with him and they exchanged harsh words leading to a fight.

Neighbours reportedly came to stop the fight but couldn't do anything because they found the door to the bedroom in which the two were fighting locked. So tense was the situation that Precious who seemed to have received the greatest share from the fight spectacularly escaped through the window.

"During the fight Sebastian was so angry to an extent that he wanted to see his sister dead. In a bid to stop her from escaping he locked the door to the bedroom where they were fighting. She later broke a window and managed to escape.  "We tried to calm down the situation but failed," said a neighbour.

After Precious escaped, Sebastian started praying on top of his voice saying he was tormented by evil spirits.

People, including his sister, reportedly went to bed leaving him still in prayer.

It is reported that when Precious woke up around midnight to check on him, she found him hanging in his bedroom.

"I don't know why he decided to take such a cowardly act," said another neighbour who identified himself as Moyo.

When reached for comment Precious said she was not at liberty to speak to the Press as she was still struggling to come to terms with the death of her brother.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.
