A 43-YEAR-OLD Mt Hampden Clinic security guard on Thursday appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court facing a murder charge after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend on the chest with a sharp object over an undisclosed dispute.
Tawaziwa Hamiti, of Atlas compound, was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Josephine Sande, who remanded him in custody to August 24 pending further investigations.
The State opposed bail, saying it feared the suspect could kill the witnesses, who saw him committing the offence and that the gravity of the matter could induce Hamiti to flee trial if released temporarily.
Hamiti was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
It is the State's case that on August 8 this year and at around 3pm, Hamiti stabbed the now-deceased, who was not named in court papers, with a sharp object on the chest and neck while she was in the toilet.
The State alleges the victim died on the spot and Hamiti fled the scene by jumping over a pre-cast wall, but was seen by three children leaving the crime scene.
Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
