Mugabe officially opens Harare Agricultural Show

President Robert Mugabe has officially opened the 107th edition of the Harare Agricultural Show at the Glamis Arena.
Delivering his key note address this afternoon, President Mugabe thanked all stakeholders for a successful agricultural show and called for increased collaboration to enhance and sustain agricultural production.
He commended the increased quality of exhibitions and increased number of exhibitors and the anticipated 250 000 people who are expected to pass through the show gates this year.
President Mugabe called for the improvement of the livestock aspect of the agricultural sector, saying it must be given adequate support.
He noted the success of the Command Agriculture programme and also commended government's increased cotton farming support.
Cde Mugabe also thanked well-wishers who have complemented government initiatives in the cotton sector.
He called for more to be done with regards to other agricultural sectors such as the small grains and horticulture.
The President urged input suppliers to work closely with farmers to ensure increased yields and implored banks to lower interest rates and provide capital to the agricultural sector.
"Please banks listen to my call," said President Mugabe.
President Mugabe commended the mining sector for being well-represented at the agricultural show and urged more companies to take advantage of the agric show and interact for increased production and economic development.
"With that may I now declare the 107th Harare Agricultural Show officially opened," said President Mugabe as he ended his speech.
Later President Mugabe presented various prizes to the best exhibitors at this year's Harare Agricultural Show.
Some of the winners include the Command Agriculture stand, Zimbabwe Defence Forces, the Gushungo Dairies and a farmer Mrs Musakwa who won a tractor.
