FOUR men who pretended to be police officers allegedly stopped a motorist and robbed him of about $100 and R3 000 along the Beitbridge–Masvingo Road in Matabeleland South province.

The robbery occurred about 340 km from Beitbridge Border at around 2AM on Wednesday.

The gang robbed Mr Destiny Khoza (28) from Garahwa, Hurungwe, who was travelling from South Africa.

A source close to investigations said one of the suspects, who was wearing a reflective jacket and a T-shirt printed "STOP CRIME," stood in the middle of the road and signalled Mr Khoza to stop. "Mr Khoza said he thought he was being stopped by the police. He parked his car by the side of the highway. The man in the reflective jacket approached Mr Khoza's vehicle as three others appeared from behind him, in the darkness and attacked Mr Khoza," said the source

"All three of them were armed with knives and they threatened him as they forced him out of the car. They robbed him of $105, R3 000, his driver's licence and his temporal travel permit. They fled from the scene, disappearing into the darkness."

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said the robbers are still at large and investigations were underway.
